 Happy Holidays! 


We had another great year!  We truly appreciate your hard work and support San Mateo kendo dojo. 

Japanese new year treats, oshiruko (sweet red bean soup with rice cake) and ozoni (salty soup with rice cake), will be served at the practice in Jan. 10
It is the tradition of Japanese martial arts known as Budo Hajime (first practice of the year). It is the ceremony to pray the members' health and improving their skill. All San Mateo Dojo kenshi including the members who practice in Foster City are invited. Please join us with your family and friends!

 San Mateo kenshi were chosen to Team NCKF 



Three kenshi of our San Mateo dojo were chosen to Team NCKF. They are practicing very hard at the special practice and will participate AUSKF championship tournament next summer as the members of Team NCKF. Go San Mateo!!

NCKF championships 201\6  Again San Mateo dojo members took trophies at NCKF Championships.
Daniel took his first trophy and it is a big one.

 Enrollment for Fall classes in Foster City opens soon 


Enrollment for Fall classes at Foster City Parks and Recreation opens soon. 
Foster City Residents may register beginning August 10 and Non-Residents may register beginning August 22.

We are offering two classes. 
Kendo Beginner meets from 1:30-2:30 pm and Kendo Advanced meets from 3-5 pm.  Both classes are on Saturday and are located in the Spirit Room.  


The Fall Session begins on September 10 and ends on November 12.  The class fee is $18 for Foster City residents and $28 for non-resident.


Please be aware that the start time for Kendo Beginner has been changed to 1:30 pm beginning this Fall.


You may register on-line, mail-in, fax-in or walk-in.  Telephone registration is not available.  Please visit http://fostercity.org/parksandrecreation/activitiesandclasses/Recreation-Classes.cfm for registration details.


The Activity Numbers for each class are:


203611-A     Kendo Beginner

203611-B     Kendo Advanced


There are class size limitations so please register early.  Kendo Beginner has a maximum of 12 students and Kendo Advanced has a maximum of 20 students.

Satoru passed 4 dan at the spring promotion test and was promoted to our new instructor. He became our 5th instructor. Congratulations!

 Farewell Harada sensei

Just after completion of  San Mateo Dojo 35th anniversary tournament, Harada sensei sadly farewelled to us and moved back to Japan due to his job assignment. 


He 
taught us for five years and he drove from Pleasanton to practice with us every week. 
We appreciate his contribution to San Mateo dojo and sent him the shinai bag with our name on it.

Sayonara, Harada sensei. Arigato gozaimashita and see you again soon!

Thank you for participating in our 35th anniversary tournament which was held in March 13 at San Mateo High School. It was a big success and we appreciate your participation and the help we received from all of the volunteers.

The registration of the spring session has started. The spaces are limited!! Please register at San Mateo Recreation Center for Tuesday practice and at Foster City Recreation Center for Saturday practice.


2pm-3pm:

Foster City Practice info.
The registration of our Saturday practice in Foster City became full.
Due to the high demand, the practice schedule has been changed to:

2pm-3pm: 
    Beginners class
    Kata Keiko for some limited students

3pm-5pm: Advanced class for those who wear Bogu 



The next registration for the spring session will begin in late Feb. or early March. Please come and take a look at our kendo practice!

Farewell Han Sensei
Han sensei sadly farewelled to us and moved to Iowa due to his job assignment. We appreciate his effort at San Mateo dojo and look forward to practice with him again.

The certificates (menjo) of the promotion test in last fall were delivered in Jan. 5, the first practice in 2016.
